For me, this is the noble task that we face in life and that defines us as human beings. My attempt to acquire the ability to shape the world is "Bildung": I believe that education makes a difference not only in who you are, but also in what impact you can exercise on the world around you. "Bildung", in addition to academic education also means character building: In life, reading literature, through the constant reflective pursuit of understanding the world. For me, this is the way to train more than system-specific skills and to retain a sense of the complexity and contradictory nature of the world.
"Bildung" is the first step toward influencing the world and the key to the second: To taking responsibility. Responsibility, in the sense of taking on a socially relevant function and performing it in a sufficiently empowered way and not squandering its influence.
